Module Overview:

The Arabic course has a three-dimensional focus:
•        Speaking Arabic
•        Arabic Grammar
•        Qur’ānic Arabic

Students learn how to translate basic Arabic sentences to English, as well as to write simple sentences in Arabic. The course also equips students with a rich bank of classical and modern Arabic vocabulary to use in their speaking, reading, and writing. This one-year module has been developed to serve as an introduction to Arabic language with special emphasis on being able to speak and converse in Arabic at a basic level. An additional focus in placed on Qur’ānic Arabic so that students gain familiarity with Qur’anic terms and are inspired to delve deeper into the Qur’ān. Learning classical Arabic effectively could not be easier than with this course. And it is hoped that students will develop on their learning in the course to eventually become proficient in classical Arabic.

Objective:
To be able to translate basic Arabic sentences
To know of introductory phrases in order to converse in Arabic

Objectives and Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this module the student will be able to:

- Develop the ability to read and write simple Arabic sentences
- Gain familiarity with Arabic words that are oft repeated in the Qur’ān
- Be able to converse on an introductory level in the Arabic language
